The discerning gent can never have too much of a good thing \u2013 this goes across the board in everything he does \u2013 from work, leisure and pleasure. In the context of his drinks cabinet \u2013 and element of pleasure of course \u2013 having too many whiskies is never an issue. So this month Elysium Magazine would like to introduce the discerning gent to another whisky that is deserving of a place in his drinks cabinet \u2013 Haig Club single grain Scotch whisky.<\/p>\n

Those of you already familiar with Haig Club with know that\u2019s it\u2019s backed by none other than Elysium Magazine favourite, David Beckham, the now retired footballer. This isn\u2019t just another celebrity endorsement \u2013 this is a partnership between Beckham and Simon Fuller \u2013 the media mogul and backed by the drinks behemoth Diageo.<\/p>\n

Haig Club is a new whisky brand from Scotland that emerged a few years ago with the backing of the heavyweights mentioned above but is in fact from Scotland\u2019s oldest grain whisky producer, the House of Haig, which dates back to the 17th Century. Originally named John Haig & Co. Ltd.<\/p>\n

Back to the actual whisky, it\u2019s of the single grain variety. Whilst some might favour a tipple of the malt whisky variety, single grain versions have a lot going for them too. Differing in the main by the type of grain used, those of the single grain type rely on wheat (or sometimes maize) to provide the natural sugars needed to create alcohol and thus a whisky \u2013 often resulting in a higher ABV compared to malt whiskies.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a deep copper in colour with a nose that\u2019s strong on the dairy theme \u2013 think creamy brie and milk with some earthy agricultural scent too. Vanilla is also a key note here. On the palate it\u2019s smooth with hints of caramel and charred wood character. The finish is of dried fruits whilst the vanilla emerges again. It\u2019s also worth noting how a bottle as unique as this blue number will look as part of your drinks cabinet collection.<\/p>\n
