Peter Jackson, the Academy Award-winning director of Lord of the Rings, is back with a new Trilogy – The Hobbit. Yes, it has now been confirmed that the movie will be split into three parts with the second part, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, released on 31 December 2013 and the final part, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, released on 18 July 2014.<\/p>\n

Fans of the Lord of the Rings trilogy are in for a treat as The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey releases on 14 December 2012 and it is looking to be as epic as Jackson\u2019s earlier \u00a0 work.<\/p>\n

The Hobbit, written by JRR Tolkien, is the prequel to the British author’s epic fantasy The Lord of the Rings, which Jackson made into three Oscar-winning films a few years ago.<\/p>\n

Anyone who has read the book will know that it outlines Bilbo Baggins\u2019 journeys to the Lonely Mountain with a group of Dwarves to reclaim a treasure stolen from them by the dragon Smaug. Help by Gandalf, the group encounter a variety of challenges along the way – much to the readers entertainment.<\/p>\n

Jackson recently introduced a 10 minute preview of The Hobbit but it was met with a mixed response at CinemaCon. The decision to shoot his latest JRR Tolkien adaptation at a rate of 48 frames per second, double that of the industry standard 24fps appeared to spark a negative reaction from critics. Jackson said in a video introduction that he made the choice to increase the frame-rate to create “movement that feels more real – it’s much more gentle on the eyes”.<\/p>\n

Many websites suggested the footage made the movie look like a soap opera and compared it to an episode of Dr Who. Not what we are expecting…<\/p>\n

Despite the mixed reactions, the movie is sure to become an epic and sit alongside the Lord of the Rings trilogy. We are big fans of the series here at Elysium Towers and will certainly be watching the movie in December, with eager anticipation of Jackson making the magic work for the new trilogy.<\/p>\n
