Summer Style – Walk Like A Man

Summer is almost upon us! With the great weather preparing us for what maybe a sizzling hot summer, now is a good time to pack away all the jumpers and scarfs and get working on the Olympic summer of style. With the flurry of stylish tourists flooding our shores, we need to fly the British flag for fashionable gents!

Here at Elysium Towers, we are keen to get a head start on what will be trending this summer. After much deliberation and a few calls to our style guys, we have complied a men’s summer guide to style. Over the coming weeks you will be lucky enough to read what we discovered would be ‘in’ this summer and what you need to be know as the most stylish discerning gent in and out of the office.

This week we start with the the ever so important footwear!

A man should care about his footwear, simple because of the fact that it constitutes the very foundation he stands upon. In an average day your shoes to absorb the force of your weight 4,000 times!

Not investing in a decent pair can lead to, not only discomfort, but injury one step at a time, especially if you select shoes that inhibit your body’s natural gait and cushioning system.

Then there is the appearance of the footwear. Apart from the rest of your clothing, shoes are a visual ‘endpoint’ and receive a disproportional amount of attention. Despite covering only 5% of your body they can make-up more than 40% of the visual judgement we make when sizing up a stranger.

But don’t be afraid to show off those ‘mankles’ a recent survey of 400 women concluded over 75% said they found men showing-off their ankles sexy. What better way to do that, and bring in the summer in style, then to get a pair of boat shoes.

Boat shoes are back on the shelves ready for summer! Every retailer shoes a pair or two and some high street fashion chains also have their own branded boat shoes. Our European brothers love to rock the boat shoe style and it’s clear where they go to get the best in respect of style and comfort – Sperry.

It’s a funny story on how the boat shoe was founded. As Paul Sperry watched his cocker spaniel, Prince, run across the ice on a winter’s day in Connecticut, he noticed his dog’s amazing ability to maintain traction on the slippery surface. Turning over Prince’s paw, he observed hundreds of tiny cracks and cuts going in all directions. These wave-like grooves became the inspiration for Mr. Sperry’s latest patent, called Razor-SipingTM, and were instrumental in maximising the traction and performance of the Authentic Original Sperry Top-Sider first introduced in 1935.

The boat shoes come in a variety of colours and sizes to provide compatibility with any outfit and absolute comfort. We tried out the Sperry boat shoes are became very attached to our new friends. The ease of comfort and quality build of the shoe made it easy to pick up and wear. The variety of colours and styles make the shoes versatile to match any outfit. Celebrities love to try new trends and two of the biggest fans of the boat shoe are Kanye West and Jay Z.

In addition to the huge variety of boat shoes available, Sperry have also launched a limited edition Olympic boat shoe (A/O 2-‐Eye Spinnaker). London gents can parade the summer in style with the exclusive footwear which will surely be the envy of any of our foreign brothers looking for some style tips.

The prices for the Sperry boat shoes start from only £49.99 and are available in the UK from Office, Next, ASOS and Coggles. Elysium salutes the legacy and the shoe – get a pair before it’s too late.
