Man of Steel

“They’ll rise behind you. They will stumble. They will fall.”

2012 has been about the super heroes! Spider-Man, Captain America and the Avengers as well as the epic that is The Dark Knight Rises. But just when you thought it was done for the year along comes a teaser for the all new Superman. Guess what – Elysium Magazine is excited!

Clark Kent’s glorious return to the big-screen doesn’t take off until June 2013, but fans can get their first glimpse at what director Zack Snyder has in store for Superman fans with two brand new teasers for The Man of Steel the DC Comics icon’s first trip to theaters since 2006’s disappointing “Superman Returns.”

The teaser does pack in action for 90 seconds – it just shows Clark, played by Henry Cavill, fishing with a voiceover from Jor-El, played by Russell Crowe.

“You will give the people an ideal to strive towards,” says Jor-El. “They’ll rise behind you. They will stumble. They will fall. In time, they will join you in the sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders.”

Man of Steel is Warners’ latest attempt to bring Superman to the big screen. The studio enlisted writer-director Bryan Singer to make Superman Returns in 2006, and the film performed well at the box office but received mixed reviews. After his success with theBatman franchise, Warners hired Christopher Nolan to executive produce a new version of the superhero.

The teaser feature only one shot of Superman in action – he breaks the sound barrier as he rockets into the sky – while the rest of the clip hints at a different kind of story about the character than audiences have seen. In particular, the footage seems to focus on Clark’s evolution and upbringing on Earth, and features a montage of beautiful, dreamlike images celebrating the beauty of the planet.

In a way Superman is the one in need now. He’s watched Batman and Spider-Man fly to greater heights in recent years — and they can’t even fly. In an age of irony and antiheroes, he’s also a little stiff and painfully wholesome. But a 75th anniversary (next year) might be a piece of cake for a guy that can crush coal into diamonds with his bare hands. As the Batman trilogy has been completed, its time for the caped crusader to take the baton and run with it. Or even fly….
