For Your Drinks Cabinet: Maxime Trijol XO Grande Champagne

It’s wonderful when you come across a name that sounds very unique. Almost instantly you’re intrigued and want to know more. That the name belongs to a rather luxurious cognac probably makes you want to know about it even more. So this week’s addition to the famed drinks cabinet of the discerning gent is the rather special Maxime Trijol XO Grande Champagne Cognac.

So what’s in the name? Well let Elysium Magazine tell you all about it. The Trijol family has been producing one of the finest cognacs in the world since the mid-1800’s from their estate in Saint-Martial-sur-Né. It’s part of the premier champagne region of south western France. This particular expression is made by distiller Jean-Jacques Trijol from grapes grown in the Grande Champagne Cru using age-old techniques.

The result is a beautiful deep gold coloured tipple with a full-bodied nose of aromatic vanilla and cedar wood. On the palate it’s full and mellow with sumptuous notes of dried fruit and spicy oak. The taste lingers for a smooth and layered finished. Something the discerning gent immediately relish.

Jean-Jacques Trijol blends various ages to create these luscious batches, which are then combined to make differing qualities. The vitality of younger batches is aided by the maturity of older 30-40 year old cognacs, but in return the younger blends to refresh the palate and add a touch of zest.

This is a drink for the discerning gent and friends to enjoy at a leisurely pace. Its heritage adds an additional talking point for your drinks cabinet, but at the end of the day nothing should detract from good conversation with great friends whilst enjoying a magnificent cognac.

Maxime Trijol XO Grande Champagne is 40% ABV and available in 70cl bottles from The Drinks Shop, RRP £80.92
