Poor old Nokia – in recent times the once mighty Nokia has taken a bashing in the smartphone stakes from the likes of Apple’s iPhone, Samsung and Blackberry. So this week, with all eyes on Nokia World 2011, the masses were expecting some game changing news. Of the news we got, it remains to be seen whether it will change the smartphone landscape – but the new handsets deliver the goods.
Of the new handsets, the Nokia Lumia 800 is billed as the first proper Windows Phone 7 smartphone. Taking that statement to one side, what we actually have is a very good multifunctional phone. The smooth one-piece body immediately grabs the attention (the near- fluorescent colour plays its part too). The 3.7inch screen is vibrant and bright (but could be bigger) and the 1.4 GHz processor certainly makes the operating system, called Mango, zip by.
Where it starts to set itself apart from the other equally powerful phones on the market right now is the integration with social networks. The phone combines Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin feeds with SMS text and chat all into one conversation, so in theory it should be easy to keep track of different conversations.
