The Best Films For 2019

The New Year has started, and the discerning gent is looking forward to cinematic entertainment to keep him enthralled. With several big films hitting the silver screen there is much anticipation for the sequels, remakes and original storytelling to provide the two hours of escapism needed to switch off from reality. Elysium Magazine previews the big draws and looks ahead to another stellar year for cinema goes.

 

Captain Marvel

The first of two Marvel films in this film rundown sees Brie Larson take Marvel Studio’s first female-led superhero adventure in Captain Marvel. Playing the role of Carol Danvers, an ex-US Air Force fighter pilot blessed with superhuman strength, as see joins an intergalactic flight between planet Earth and two other alien worlds.

Godzilla: King Of The Monsters

Everyone’s favourite super-monster, Godzilla, returns to cinema screens in 2019 for another creature-feature outing. This time, the crypto-zoological agency Monarch comes up against a host of beasts including Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and the three-headed King Ghidorah. With so many monsters all vying for supremacy, how with civilisation as we know it survive?

Avengers: Endgame

Following the mass destruction and devastating loss of life from Avengers: Infinity War (2018) that Thanos reigned over, the remaining Avengers must assemble once again in order to help restore the universe once again. Expect the same high-octane ride as previous films with impressive one With Tony Stark lost in space and the remaining Avengers suffering from the cost of the last war, how will good prevail?

The Lion King

If you’re going to remake a classic, make sure it does the original justice. This version of the 1994 jewel will be directed by Jon Favreau and will feature a stellar list of celebrity voices such as Chiwetel Ejiofor, Seth Rogen, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and James Earl Jones to name a few. Animation will be photorealistic computer graphics so expect a visual feast of Serengeti drama.

Star Wars: Episode IX

The third and final instalment in the Star Wars sequel trilogy – and the ninth in the linear story aside from the standalone films – will enthral audiences and conclude what has been intergalactic storytelling spanning more than three decades. Details are sparse in addition to what we know from the previous two films. With directorial changes and the passing of Carrie Fisher poses major challenges during the filming and production of the film, fans will be hoping the concluding film delivers on the cinematic experience just as the previous films did.
